Cool stuff in the mail today!

So I have an immense love with Cryptozoology and the paranormal. Cryptozoology is the study of unknown creatures ...Bigfoot, Mothman, and all that Jazz.

I contacted Cryptozoologist Ken Gerhard back on the 15th, he was really stand up nice guy replied back to me. etc.

I received a really cool little package from him today

first off is a nice agency photo signed by Ken

Next is a Art Print and a postcard/ad from Crypto artist Thomas E Finley

last is a really cool and super weird sticker of some random people with bigfoot behind them. I have no idea what it is from, but it's totally weird, which I love.

I also revived this from Folk musician and novelist Mark Brine. when I contacted him he had said he was in poor health and would send when he could, I received this a week later.
I wish Mr.Brine the best with his health and hope he continues to heal.
Mark is a member of the National Old Time Country Music Hall of Fame and has performed at the Grand old Opry

heres a nice little documentary about marks music.

This is the 3way folded pamphlet Mr. Brine sent.

Some recent art, Neanderthal Men.

I've always been fascinated by "Cavemen" and Dinosaurs. I even took Anthropology as my major in college.
I have been these sketch cards for quite some time now, they are the size of a baseball card 2.5 x 3.5 inches,

I use watercolor paints and pen to draw and paint these.

They are of two Neanderthal men.

from the Smithsonian website

Neanderthals (the ‘th’ pronounced as ‘t’) are our closest extinct human relative. Some defining features of their skulls include the large middle part of the face, angled cheek bones, and a huge nose for humidifying and warming cold, dry air. Their bodies were shorter and stockier than ours, another adaptation to living in cold environments. But their brains were just as large as ours and often larger - proportional to their brawnier bodies.

Neanderthals made and used a diverse set of sophisticated tools, controlled fire, lived in shelters, made and wore clothing, were skilled hunters of large animals and also ate plant foods, and occasionally made symbolic or ornamental objects. There is evidence that Neanderthals deliberately buried their dead and occasionally even marked their graves with offerings, such as flowers. No other primates, and no earlier human species, had ever practiced this sophisticated and symbolic behavior.

DNA has been recovered from more than a dozen Neanderthal fossils, all from Europe; the Neanderthal Genome Project is one of the exciting new areas of human origins research.

Year of Discovery:  1829

Males: average 5 ft 5 in (164 cm); Females: average 5 ft 1 in (155 cm)
Males: average 143 lbs (65 kg); Females: average 119 lbs (54 kg)
Height & Weight Supplemental Information:
While the tall, lean bodies of earlier human species like Homo erectus were adapted to tropical temperatures, the short, stocky bodies of Neanderthals were adapted to winter climates. With thick, short lower arm and leg bones making up a very strong and compact body, Neanderthals were more heavily built than modern humans and were more efficient at conserving body heat, allowing them to withstand living in cold climates during ice ages.

Neanderthal males were slightly taller and heavier than Neanderthal females; however, sexual dimorphism was not nearly as extreme as what is seen in earlier human species.

One thing that the article doesn't mention is that the Neanderthal's head was oddly shaped compared to ours.
They had little to no forehead, the skull went straight back on top ...almost flat, and they had little to no chin.

First Day Covers and other Stamp Goodness

No mail today, so I figured I would share what I bought on eBay the other day.

I have many hobbies, as most of you can tell. This was something which I started because I received so much mail from doing autographs and trades with baseball cards. I started to keep all the stamps, and now I have about 300 different stamps. my oldest being from an envelope that contains a letter that was written in the 1850s.

I received these in the mail yesterday.

I bought these and got them shipped for around $1.50 for all of them

these are first day covers commemorating the Civil War and Confederacy.

A First Day Cover (FDC) is an envelope or card bearing a stamp which is cancelled on the day the stamp is initially placed on sale by the postal authorities.
the stamp is placed on sale in one or many cities depending on subject.

This is the Final Reunion of the Confederacy commemorative 3 Cent stamp.
It was released in 1951

I got this for .99 cents free shipping.
